Kevin Oncken
Kevin has been married for 23 years and is the proud father of two children. He is a Credentialed Mediator through the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association and is a member of the Texas Association of Mediators. Kevin completed his mediation training through the Dispute Resolution Center in Austin Texas in 2004 and has successfully mediated complex civil cases involving Personal Injury, Products Liability, and Commercial/Business disputes since that time. He is also a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association. In addition to serving as the Mediator, Kevin has successfully served as lead counsel in hundreds of mediations on behalf of clients and is known for his creative and persuasive visual presentations. Because he has so often stood in the shoes of a litigant's representative in mediation, he brings a perspective that lends well to successfully serving as the neutral for other parties. Kevin's education includes a B.S. in Business Administration from The University of South Carolina where he earned his degree in 1982 and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1987. He is certified as a Diplomat in Medical Professional Liability by written examination with the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, is admitted to practice in Texas, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, and has previously authored an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In addition, he is often retained to handle complex cases in other States through pro hac vice admission.
Kevin also serves as Senior Shareholder and Co-Founder of Uzick & Oncken, P.C. and is an AV rated Texas attorney. His litigation practice focuses on trial work and includes service as lead trial counsel in over 100 jury trials to verdict. His caseload ranges from Commercial/Business Litigation, to Medical Malpractice, catastrophic Personal Injury cases, Product Liability and Premises Liability. Kevin has authored and published numerous articles, papers, and presentations dealing with medical malpractice issues and has been a frequent lecturer at both CLE and CME functions.
